BRAKE SHOES AND CABLES

The information on this page should help you to identify the brake shoes and cables fitted to your trailer or caravan.

AL-KO TYPE Three popular types are fitted to most trailers and caravans. The photos should help you to see the type required. Drum diameters are shown. Brake shoes are supplied as pairs only

KNOTT TYPE There are many sizes of this German manufacturers shoe used on trailers. All have the "slipper" shoe and one standard shoe. Most look the same so all we need to know to supply these is the diameter of the brake drum and the width of the shoe. Brake shoes are supplied as pairs only

LOCKHEED BRAKES Although these shoes are now obsolete we still have limited stocks of certain sizes. Again measure the diameter of the drum and width of shoe. Lockheed do make a similar shoe to the Knott shown above as well as these. The shoe or slipper will be marked Lockheed.

BRAKE CABLES MEASURE THE OUTER LENGTH AND IDENTIFY THE FITTING ON EACH END. WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SUPPLY FROM THIS INFORMATION.

IMPORTANT NOTE. Make a note before disassembly, the layout of all brake shoes, especially the auto reverse type. These shoes must be fitted in exactly the way removed or they will not function correctly. Always fit new shoes in pairs and adjust correctly.
